Last but certainly not least…please meet my sixth mentee from the past eight weeks…Nikki! Nikki is such a fun, outgoing person but more importantly a giving and caring person. She and I first met when she came to the.ONE DAY.workshop back in August of 2011. Soon after that she and a friend did a one.2.one session then last fall she booked a family portrait session and we had a blast! I love the friendship/relationship we’ve built over the past year and that’s what I love about what I do!
Take a minute to read a little paragraph about her journey in her photography business.
I have always loved capturing moments on film. I think maybe all photographers start out that way. I have had a camera for as long as I can remember. I graduated with a Deaf Education degree from The University of Southern Mississippi. Being around kiddos was always something I have done…from babysitting, teaching Mothers Day out, and working in a special education preschool. I loved teaching my deaf kiddos after college. I took pictures of the kids I babysat and the kids I taught constantly. I then became pregnant with my twin girls Amelia and Abigail and started staying home with them. I got my first DSLR a Nikon D50 (I have since upgraded 4 times) to take pictures of my girls, and I started having friends ask me to take pictures of their kiddos. It gave me something fun to do, and I got to be around kids all the time which was my first true love. My husband Brian supported me in the thought of starting up my own hobby/job/business. I started teaching myself as much as I could through reading and watching tutorials online. I took a couple of classes here and there, but then met Erin who finally made everything “click” for me. I was finally able to take the knowledge I had learned on my own and put it all together with her help. I am so glad I met Erin. She is teaching me how to take my business Double Takes Photography to the next level. I’ve had to REALLY think about what direction I want my business to go in, and not just go through the motions. I truly love what I do because it is allowing me to be a stay at home mom, (which is number one in my books) and run a successful business. I can’t wait for next year as I am making so many awesome changes to Double Takes Photography with Erin’s direction.
