As we are in Maine for a couple of more days I wanted to share a few pictures from our trip last week to Prince Edward Island in Canada.
We had a wonderful three days exploring a new country and countryside that neither of us had been to. The beauty was unbelievable and breath-taking, so much as these pictures don’t do justice…in my opinion that is. Once we arrived in PEI we only had a few hours that afternoon to explore.
4 tips we would love to pass on, if you are going to visit the island:
#1 The island itself was much larger than either of us thought or knew.
So we had to get a plan of action so we could cover as much of the island in 2 days as possible!! Make a stop at the tourism center as you enter the island. They have a wealth of knowledge and information just waiting for you!
#2 Make a stop by the Green Gables
We decided to spend our first afternoon driving to the northern part of the island to see the Green Gables where L M Montgomery was when she wrote the Anne of Green Gables series, which I think is what has made PEI so familiar and popular to a lot. We knew we didn’t want to spend much time in this area, we just wanted to see it since we were there.
#3 The island is not commercialized besides the capital Charlottetown so we enjoyed finding the locally owned restaurants. We had dinner on the coast at a peaceful cafe, Blue Mussel Cafe, that was new to the area and the food was amazing. For us seeing the beauty of God’s creation trumps the “run-of-the-mill” sites that most go for. Many times we’d see a dirt road that was off the beaten path and we’d just take it to see what was at the end, only to find some amazing breath taking view….to stay and enjoy it for a few minutes… snap a few pictures…set the timer and cross our fingers that a “selfie” would turn out half-way decent of the two of us…then take off exploring more. We enjoyed stopping along the coast and exploring the countryside.
#4 Trip Advisor is what I combed for days reading reviews before we booked a room. To say the least…we crashed at our “inn” that night. We didn’t stay at a bed and breakfast but more of an inn in the downtown historical area. It was a quiet place to rest and get rejuvenated for the next day! Dundee Inn was our place of quiet rest! We made one of the best choic
es on the island!!
