Top 10 Fun Things to do in San Antonio Texas
I decided to re-name this blog post
Our Top 10 [most fun] Things to do in San Antonio Texas. We did more than 10 things…but these were our favorites
We basically planned this trip over-night. We had planned on going somewhere totally different and we looked at the weather forecast for that area and it was to be raining the whole week…No way were we heading there.
Since my Maine boy had never been to Texas we knew we wanted to go…so now was the week to take off!
We did the scary Priceline.com…I was hesitant to press the button…but how can you go wrong with a 4 star hotel right on the river walk in San Antonio, Texas? Well you can’t, especially for the price we got it at!!!!
So we were off…in our crazy little world of lets go to church…pack a lunch and leave right after Sunday morning service and drive to Texas…so OFF we went! 12 hours later crashing in our amazing hotel room…slept in (until 8am!!!) the next morning…then off on our Texas adventure!
Hope you enjoy seeing our vacation through my little camera!
1- San Antonio Riverwalk – We opted to walk it, so we could get off at streets and explore! I had written the river boat cruise before, so getting to walk it was GREAT. Now wear some good walking shoes and don’t know that I would recommend this to families with little ones!
2- King William District – We discovered this as we were walking and loved this part of our walk. Beautiful district of historic homes. Worth the stop if you’re walking or driving!
3- San Antonio Missions National Historic Park – We enjoyed seeing some of the missions, although we didn’t have to do them all, we enjoyed seeing the grounds and structures.
4- La Villita Historic Arts Village – Probably one of my favorite spots because of it’s local vibe of art and food. It’s a great and quiet (when we were there) spot to spend some time browsing! Our tradition for a souvenir is a Christmas ornament for our tree, and we found a handmade ornament from a local at one of the stores in the Village!
5- Gruene Texas – Gristmill River Restauraunt – We loved this quaint town while we were driving through the country hill side. It’s great place to eat with a unique atmosphere and relaxed environment.
6- New Braunfels, TX – Oh this quaint town, we could have spent an entire day just popping in the antique stores! Make some time for this great place.
7- Oldest Bakery in Texas- Naegelin’s Oh dear…you might want to stop here for breakfast…midmorning snack…lunch…mid afternoon snack…dinner…and late night snack…and pick up something for your midnight snack!!! SERIOUSLY go get some apple strudel’s…what they are known for…they even popped it in the microwave for us and warmed it up! YUMMM-Y!
8- Oldest Hardware Store in Texas- Henne What a unique and fun place to visit! A definite place to stop in even the kids will love it.
9- San Antonio Market Square (we wish the Farmers Market had been open!)
10- The Alamo Go do the tour during the day…take your time walking around and enjoying the sites…then make some time to go back by it at night when it’s dark and lit up. It’s beautiful!
11- Driving through some of the Texas Hill Country – Take some time to drive…and get off of the beaten path! We loved finding a little park to lay down a towel at and put our feet in the stream! We only stayed for about an hour, but it was so peaceful and relaxing.
Amber - Ok….seriously jealous. Looks like you two had tons of fun and experienced some awesome parts of Texas! Thanks for sharing.
Amanda Janik - Loved seeing all these photos! 🙂 Looks like you had a great time.
Rebekah - Erin!! I LOVED seeing your photos of San Antonio! We were there only a week or two after you were, and also went 2 years ago – saw many of the same places you did! Your pictures capture Texas so artistically and beautifully. 🙂
